Mobile tablets have become extremely popular since their debut in 2009 at the Consumer Electronics Show. Many other electronic companies had design model concepts but no finished product ready for store shelves. When launched in April of 2010, the Apple iPad took the electronic tablet industry by storm with the only available model with a functioning platform ready for release at that time. Since then Apple has sold over 7 million units of the Apple iPad worldwide.

So what is the big deal? Why are electronic tablets so much in demand? Well, for one electronic tablets are lightweight and ultra portable. Instead of lugging around that heavy laptop from one place to another on daily basis, consumers can enjoy the ease in taking along with them a versatile featherweight mobile PC tablet that can be used anywhere. These tablets are getting more and more popular with the fact that manufacturers are continually releasing improvements that prove to be productive to the average user and traveling business persons as well.

Tablets are now featured in various colors, shapes, and sizes. However, there are a few things to look out for when looking to purchase a tablet. But first ask yourself what you may want to use the tablet for. If a mobile WiFi tablet important, make sure to buy a tablet which can connect to a mobile internet service provider as there are only a few service providers with these services available at this time.

Another important thing is the tablet‘s application store. Take time to research application stores offered by the tablet’s named company. Not all tablets have the same capability to run popular applications as other tablets do. One of the latest tablets like as the Motorola Zoom is running on the most recent Android platform which offer hundreds of thousands of great application making the tablet ultra versatile for all types of tablet users.

And last but not the least of concerns, take a look at the hardware. Making sure that purchase of a tablet is worth the money being paid for is the most important aspect of buying one. To avoid disappointment, be sure to observe the important technical features such as the hard drive capacity, gigabytes of RAM offered, memory, video capabilities, available connectivity options, and battery life. This will make all of the difference in the world when considering which tablet to buy.

tablet computersWe live in a world where we constantly interact with electronic media whether it’s through a phone or a computer. A phone offers instant portability, but a limited range of options for engaging and manipulating the information. On the other hand, desktop systems enable us to do the most, but are hardly portable. Even laptops are cumbersome when compared to a smart phone. There have been conflicts between the two camps and the consumer has been caught in the middle, often carrying both pieces of equipment and relying on awkward solutions to synchronize the two.

A few years back tech manufacturers started to work towards integrating the two. The result has been a category of devices called tablet computers. In 2000, it was Microsoft that first utilized the term tablet to describe a mobile computer. Since then, of course multiple manufacturers entered the field culminating in the explosive success of the iPad.

From the first, tablet computers were kept out of the mainstream by costs, but prices have dropped considerably and are expected to drop further. Other issues have been that computer users have come to expect faster programs and higher resolution video. Innovations in miniaturization and display technology are rapidly resolving those issues. Of course, the biggest disadvantage to tablets arises out of their very nature: portability. If you’re going to take your tablet everywhere, then it’s likely to start looking like you take it everywhere. Just as a car is going to pick up scratches as you drive, you can expect the same from a tablet. Also, screens may develop blemishes or be hard to see it certain lighting.

Many people feel touch sensitive screens offer a more natural way to interact with data rather than learned movements such as typing and come with a stylus. Still, some offer a simulated keyboard display. The most recognizable advantage of a tablet computer is portability. It’s easily used in areas you can’t take a traditional computer and easier to accommodate than a laptop. At home, you can sit anywhere in your living room or even take it to bed with you. It’s also ideal for travel. Paired with wireless networks, you can access your information anywhere and anytime.

Overall, the tablet has come a long way from its origins and it’s likely that it’s going to become standard issue for most computer users.

Apple agrees to stop lying to customers

After weeks, Jobs’ Mob has finally agreed to bow down to Aussie regulators and stop calling its iPad 4G down under and in the UK.

Watchdogs in the UK and Australia growled at Apple for calling its iPad 4G when it did not work on any 4G systems available in those countries.

True the tablet could handle 4G, but only in the US, which is a pretty long way to go to download your Coldplay collection at the high speeds that 4G offers.

What is surprising is that it has taken Apple that long to realise that you can’t sell a product which does not do what it says in the tin.

It look some pretty serious legal threats before Jobs’ Mob moved on changing its marketing.

This means that there will be no such thing as the “Wi-Fi + 4G”, the model that connects to mobile data networks like Telstra’s is now named “Wi-Fi + Cellular” on Apple’s website.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the change affects not just the Australian online Apple store but the UK and US versions too.

Apple’s Australian branch blamed telcos for the problem. They said that because telecommunications companies “do not all refer to their high-speed networks with the same terminology” it had therefore “decided to use ‘Wi-Fi + Cellular’ as a simple term” which describes all of the networks supported by the new iPad.

This has to be one of the most cheesy excuses possible. Apple knew when it marketed the iPad as 4G the standard it was using was only available in a small part of its market and it pressed ahead anyway. Blaming the telcos is like saying we made a product for a small segment of the US market, it is not our fault that the rest of the world does not follow one US telco.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) took the tech giant to court in late March, alleging it had misled consumers. The Advertising Standards Authority in the United Kingdom was also investigating Apple for similar reasons.

But what is amazing that even after Apple conceded in Victoria’s Federal Court in March that the iPad model that connects to mobile networks was not compatible with 4G networks in Australia it took so long to stop offering the “4G” version.

All it did was agree to display the comment that it did not support Australian 4G LTE networks and WiMAX networks. It never promised to change the product’s name.

Question by : Can i use metamorph (android) or any other appA/software to install themes on my tablet?
I recently bought a arnova 10 g2 which i have fully rooted and i wanted to change the overall look of the gingerbread theme including adding lock screens and docks, everything really lol.

anyways ive heard of metamorph and how powerful the tool is, and found sites that provide the zip files but not sure if they can work on my tablet. if anyone has info of where to get proper themes, please let me know especially if theres a proper honeycomb looking theme. thanks

Apple gets another chance to troll Samsung

The US appeals court has given Apple another crack at slapping an immediate injunction against Samsung.

After Apple CEO Steve Jobs became convinced that Samsung stole his idea for a tablet, he decided to destroy the competition in a patent troll campaign. However, Apple did not have much luck with this after a local judge refused to give it an immediate injuction to ban the sale of Samsung’s product.

According to Reuters, the District court said that Apple failed to show that it was likely to succeed on the merits of the case.

Apple has appealed and now the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit said the judge in a district court in California had that wrong.

It decided that Apple could press its bid for an immediate injunction to block the sale of some tablets made by Samsung Electronics based on allegations of infringement of one patent.

The patent in question has to do with the design of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet. While the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California decided that the design patent should not have been given and could be challenged as “obvious”, the appeals court disagreed.

It was not all good for Apple though. The appeals court also ruled that the lower court was right to deny Apple requested preliminary injunctions which would have stopped the sale of Samsung smartphones and tablets based on three other patents.

These include two patents that have to do with smartphone design and a third related to scrolling.
